I’m not a try it out and see how it goes kind of

I’m not a try it out and see how it goes kind of therapist. If that’s been your way of thinking then perhaps there’s some bigger thinking that’s been happening that would be useful to address first.

Perhaps it’s been about previous experiences you’ve had in therapy. Which in that case, maybe it’s useful to be reminded that not all therapists are the same and just because your last therapist didn’t work out doesn’t mean the next one won’t.

Or perhaps it’s because you’ve been thinking therapy won’t be useful at all. Maybe you don’t want therapy and are just going because someone told you to. Maybe it’s been because you’ve not known any other way. See, there’s lots of reasons you might be hesitant about therapy and sorting through that might be useful before “trying it out.” That’s why initial phone consults with therapist is always useful. Helps to declutter to see what’s been stuck before deciding what the next steps are.

What I do is effective. What I do is fun. What I do is what I do. But I don’t have all the keys to all the kingdoms so what I do, might not be a fit for you. And that’s okay. You might not be a fit for me. And that’s also okay. That’s why having that initial phone consult is so useful. It’s a chance for you and I to see if we’re a fit. And if it’s not me then I’m going to help you find someone who is.

So please know, I’m never going to book a session with you to “try it out.” By thinking you’ll “see how it goes” means you’ve already been preparing for it to not go well, and that’s not fair to either of us. So if you want to talk about concerns or worries about therapy then let’s do that. I’d rather you be totally on board and looking forward to our appointment than feeling already let down for something that hasn’t even happened yet 💛

Turning the lenses out is a powerful shift in perspective.
Any interaction had with others is data and info learned about them, not ever about you.

We were given bad info as kids…be good, do good,

We were given bad info as kids…be good, do good, get good. You are where you are, not where you need to be. Everything happens as it does.

Thinking it should be different means it would be, but it isn’t, so it can’t. Everything happens just as it happens with no other way for it to be. So get good with that.

You are where you are and if there’s something you’d like to be different then connect with me and let’s get that done. But thinking about it any other way other than where you are right now, makes no sense. You are here now and that’s where there is for you to be. And being here now means you’re already on the way to even greater.

When our subconscious mind gets information about

When our subconscious mind gets information about a “need” it begins to code and think of it as necessary for survival. Which means, it responds to make sure you don’t get eaten.

When we use the word need, we’re providing messages about survival to our brain. Which becomes problematic because now your brain has coded something for survival that isn’t actually necessary to survive.

Basically, you need whatever it is you think you need, like a fish needs a bicycle.

For example, “I need sleep.” Bottom brain responds with survival thinking it isn’t getting sleep and needing it means it’s necessary to survive, and without it, it might get eaten.

Bottom brain can’t tell time so now it’s thinking it’s going to be eaten and die and the last thing it’s going to do is sleep because now it’s got to keep you awake, alert, and aware to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Logically you see how ridiculous that is. Yet bottom brain doesn’t respond to reason or logic. It’s responds to survive. And it would rather be wrong than have you be eaten.

So let’s replace the thought of what you “need” to be more about what has benefit.

When there is benefit, it’s easier for subconscious mind to move towards it. Shift from what’s needed to be more about what’s of interest.

It takes the pressure out of survival and moves towards pleasure, which is so much more enjoyable to do.

Plus bottom brain gets that. It’s only purpose is to avoid harm, seek benefit.

So, if there’s been a thought that’s been stuck or centred around need then let’s get that shifted.

Let’s shift it to what are you interested in and show your bottom brain what that is. Show it with pleasure and satisfaction. Show it with what’s possible and has benefit. Let the air out of the pressure it’s been experiencing thinking about what you “need” for survival.

Instead, light it up with appeal. This is a simple tweak to how you’ve been thinking of things.

What I do is different. Different than what we’v

What I do is different. Different than what we’ve been taught and learned about mental health and therapy. Different doesn’t mean good or bad. It just means it’s about fit. So, here’s something to try on, about what I do, to see how it fits ☺️

I offer a lens to look through, a different perspective to consider. I don’t think I know everything. I don’t even know if what I know is true. But I do know I have an unusual way of considering things that people tell me is useful for them. So, let’s consider that therapy is like trying on a pair of sunglasses, seeing how it fits, checking out what it might be like to see things through that lens. If you like it and it fits, then great. And if not, then at least I’ve entertained you for a bit and we’ll try on a new lens until there’s one that does fit.

Not every day is bright. Some days can feel cloudy

Not every day is bright. Some days can feel cloudy, dark, heavy even. And yet, you have made it through all of them. You’ve made it through because you are on the way to even greater. Each moment of dark is already closer to light. It’s closer because of you. It’s closer because it is you.

You are light. A rainbow of light. You shift and transform. Sometimes a rainbow appears faint and yet, you know it’s there. Because no matter how cloudy it may be, the clouds only make it more aware to see that glimpse of light which brings hope, wonder, and possibility.

So, today, turn upwards. Turn your face to the sky and close your eyes. Feel the warmth, the breeze, and notice the energy. It’s an energy of you as you move through all that has been. Each moment is one on the way to the other side. Each moment is closer to it being completed, defeated, and done. Each moment is on the way to the rainbow. To the other side.

The light and beauty that comes from something dark, is as powerful as a rainbow, which is almost as powerful as you. Experience the power by turning your gaze to where you are headed. There, on the way, is you. The energy of flow and movement. The light of you.

It’s beautiful. It’s powerful. It’s light. There’s peace in the experience of that. There’s peace in the experience of you. And anytime needing a moment, simply close your eyes and face upward. See the rainbow. Feel the light of you.
