“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” –Maya Angelou
Once we learn something, we can’t unlearn it. Our brain becomes updated and installed with the latest version of information and runs the network differently. Then as the next update becomes available it’s ready for that and learns more to do even more that has benefit. That’s why when we know better, we do better, something the great Maya Angelou knew ???? I think about speaking engagements and presentations in this way. When we learn together it becomes a powerful and exciting experience where collectively we know more to then run the network differently which is how we bring about lasting change.
What we also know now from the latest neuroscience research, is that the best way people learn is through humour, fun, and play. I won’t bore you with all that research though.
I’ll simply ask you to recall how you learned things as a child. How did learn to stop eating spaghetti with your hands and to use a fork instead? Through play! At some point there was probably a strange utensil looking airplane that zoomed around and when the hanger opened it landed and fed you! Or when potty training, perhaps there were Cheerios in the toilet that made for fun target practice. Or that time in class when you learned to sing the alphabet to learn letters which was on the way to reading and writing. Humour, fun, play. That’s how we learn effectively! That’s how our brain changes.
So, get your group together because I think having brain changing conversations is fun. Whether it’s online or in person, you can be sure there will be humour and interactive play keeping your audience engaged. People will leave feeling uplifted having learned more about how the mind works and other mental health topics which brings awareness to the community and together makes change possible. Are you ready for some neuroscience fun and to make shift happen?
